Short description of the product
Ipembo Campus has been developed to offer internet-based courses with special focus on SADC Region.
Long description of the product
With the dwindling investment in educational institutions by governments due to poor economies, eLearning programs offer an avenue for a large number of people to access education. The Ipembo Campus is a customized solution for eLearning in developing countries. It works under low bandwidth requirements. Participants and trainers need a browser only to attend or to manage courses and content. Since Ipembo Campus is based on Open Source ICT, this results in lower training fees for participants and less infrastructure costs for training institutions.
Ipembo Campus has been developed to offer mainly internet-based courses with special focus on SADC Region. The platform is aimed at meeting the needs of the greater majority of individuals and institutions in the SADC who cannot afford the high fees of some overseas eLearning services and platforms. Also, it is intended to promote local content in the learning material by focusing on the empowerment of local knowledge owners and the provision of platforms on the Internet for SADC knowledge services and sustainable business.
The equipment requires standard PC desktop technology only and the server platform has been developed based on open source technology (Linux Operating System, ZOPE Application Server, ZMS Learning Content Management System).
Ipembo Campus provides environment for development cooperation projects in the SADC Region to rapidly build capacities for e-learning, knowledge management and e-collaboration. Our services are adapted to local requirements (minimalistic approach) and our solutions have been implemented in a number of projects in Africa and Asia since 1998.
